A steady stream of people came through the CCRx Warehouse this past Saturday for our first Community Repair Day. They brought with them items great and small, all needing a bit of repair in order to keep in use and keep OUT of the landfill. And thanks to the ingenious folks from the Community Glue Workshop, they were not disappointed!
CCRx Interns Charlie, Kelly and Arianna greeted everyone with big smiles!
What was repaired?
Well... a pearl necklace got a new latch...
A vintage vacuum cleaner now works...
A metal folding chair with a bent leg got a spiffy new brace...
These lucky ladies had their DVD projector repaired...
A Janome sewing machine got a tune-up...
And a mothy cashmere sweater was among several textiles mended, patched and restored...
While Ken focused on this old bicycle with a broken chain and fixed it with Charlie's help...
then celebrated (tested it) by taking it for a spin!
That's not all that was repaired, but that's all we photographed : ) Not only did we keep a lot of good things out of the landfill, but we learned a lot too. And it was all free of charge!! And everyone got to fill a box of supplies for free as well.
We hope you come back soon, Community Glue!
The next Community Repair Day will be Saturday September 18 from 11am-2pm.
We will be joined by fixers from the Chicago Tool Library.
Start saving those things that need fixing!
